What is the importance of managing resources in Project Planning and Management? Why to manage resources?

Efficient and effective use of resources can often make or break a project. Because resources are limited some hard to be obtain ,expensive or both. The allocation of resources can have a major influence on project schedules. For ex: limited programmers effects time, cost , quality , risk management.

  • Resources that you free up can be used in other projects that share the same resource pool

  • Increased resource use by other higher-priority projects lowers the resource availability for your project

  • Resources can be moved from low-risk or less-critical to critical tasks within a project

  • Idle resource cost money

  • Over allocated resources increases the risk that a project will fall behind schedule

Managing resources is important because resources are scarce and may not be available when you need them alternatively resources may be lying idle and costing rentals and you may not be using them. In both the cases you will be incurring costs, and may be loosing time to finish the time bound projects, thereby also loosing on returns on your investments.

 

If you don't manage resources , you are wasting them a thing that you can ill afford to do.
